Our Mission
Pawz for Hope was founded by Karin Mizell in loving memory of Goku, a beloved poodle whose courageous battle with Addison’s disease forever changed our family.
Through Goku’s journey, we experienced firsthand the emotional and financial challenges that can come with an unexpected illness. The costs of diagnosis, emergency care, treatment, and ongoing medication can quickly become overwhelming. Although we ultimately lost Goku, his life inspired a mission that will continue in his name: to give other animals—and the people who love them—hope when they need it most.
Our mission is to provide financial assistance and resources to families facing overwhelming veterinary expenses so that, whenever possible, decisions about an animal’s care can be based on what is best for the animal rather than what a family can afford.
Animals battling Addison’s disease will always hold a special place in our hearts, but our mission extends to animals facing illnesses, injuries, emergencies, and other circumstances where financial hardship may stand between them and the care they need.
Pawz for Hope is also committed to supporting local animal rescues, foster families, and organizations working tirelessly to protect, rehabilitate, and find forever homes for animals in need. Through monetary donations, supplies, community partnerships, and volunteer support, we hope to strengthen the network of people who dedicate their lives to giving animals a second chance.
As Pawz for Hope grows, our vision is to expand our impact even further, including helping support the training and placement of service dogs for individuals who can benefit from the independence, companionship, and assistance these extraordinary animals provide.
Goku’s journey may have ended, but the hope he inspired did not. Through Pawz for Hope, his legacy will live on in every animal helped, every family supported, and every second chance made possible.
